Of all the laptop brands available, the MacBook Air certainly seems to be one of the best laptop brands.  The specifications have improved, users seem to love it and reviews are highly complimentary with almost nothing negative to mention.

This version is a 13.3” model but still has plenty of processing power slotted in.  The 1.8 GHz Intel Core i5 processor comes with 4GB of DDR3 RAM (upgradable to 8GB) and the 128 GB Solid State Drive is smaller, quieter and more efficient than conventional hard drives.

The LED-backlit display has a 1490 x 900 resolution and is driven by an Intel HD Graphics 4000 card.  With an external screen, you can achieve a resolution of up to over 4 million pixels at 2560 x 1600!

Transfer methods include a Thunderbolt Connection, two USB3.0 ports, SD card reader, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wifi.  Thunderbolt connections are quite something; allowing file transfer speeds of up to 10 gigabytes per second (that's around 4 hours of HD movies per second!).

User interface is well-designed too with a back-lit keyboard, 720p HD FaceTime webcam, Mac OSX 10.7 Mountain Lion, the iLife suite, stereo speakers that play through the keyboard and a versatile multi-touch mousepad.

Finally, it weighs in at 2.9lbs (1.3kg) and Apple are claiming up to 7 hours of use from one battery charge and the possibility of  up to 30 days' standby.  With a depth measurement of just 3/4” at it's thickest and nearly 1/10th of an inch at it's thinnest, the MacBook surely can make a claim of being the best laptop brand for ultraportability!

Checking out the user reviews for the MacBook Air definitely lends credence to the idea that this might be the best brand of laptop.  Users repeatedly noted the fast processing speeds and start-up times.  As with all MacBooks since 2008, it has the popular, sturdy and light aluminium 'unibody' construction too.

The majority of user reviews had nothing negative to say.  Some mentioned that the resolution could have been better (given the price) but if this is really important to you, you can always use an external screen to get that rather amazing 4-millon-pixel resolution!

Other grumbles generally arose from the learning curve associated with getting used to the new OS  – this is a given for Macs, whether you're coming from Windows machines or an older Mac OSX.  Either way, it won't take you too long and user reviews make it sound like it's really worth it!

In conclusion, the specifications and use reviews suggest this is a great model for a new Mac user.  If you are accustomed to a different kind of machine, you'll love this product.  If you're merely looking to upgrade from the previous model, you might do well to wait for further updates.

Alternatively, if you were hoping for a more powerful machine, you can upgrade to a Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM and 512 GB memory.  Either way, a Macbook Air is likely to cost you a bit more than  you're used to but countless user experiences show you get less problems and that got to be worth it!

This laptop has now been superseded and replaced by the Apple MacBook Air MD231LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop (NEWEST VERSION)
